Indications

Colic of the billiard, gastro-intestinal and urinary tracts. Dysmenorrhoea, Mittelschmerz.

CONTRA-INDICATIONS

DIPYRON (Analgin) should not be given in glaucoma, hepatic porphyria, where known hypersensitivity exists to pyrazolone and phenylbutazone, and in enlarged prostate.

Warnings

Do not give rapid intravenous injections.

Do not use for longer than 10 (ten) days at a time.

Hypersensitivity to DIPRYON and other nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory agents with prostaglandinsynthetase inhibiting activity may occur. The possibility of cross sensitivity amount nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory agents exists.

Dosage and directions for use

In acute cases best results are obtained by slow intravenous injection (1ml per minute) with patient in recumbent position. It may also be administered intramuscularly.

Adults: 5ml I.M. or slow I.V.; may be repeated every two to three hours.

In milder cases 2 to 5 ml I.M.

Children under 3 years; not recommended

3 to 6 years: 0.5 to 1.5 ml twice daily per I.M.

6 to 12 years: 1 to 2.5 ml once to twice daily per I.M.

3 to 12 years: I.V. administration not recommended

I.M. as above only if absolutely necessary; tablets preferred.

Over 12 years: 5 ml two to three times daily per I.M. every eight hours.

 

Side’effects and special precautions

Agranulocytosis due to dipyron-induced leukocyte antibody may occur; this can be severe requiring careful supervision to detect early manifestations. If it occurs, medication should be stopped immediately and the patient watched for signs of possible infection and the leukocyte count followed up. Shock may set in immediately or within an hour of administration, particularly in patients with bronchial asthma, chronic bronchitis and allergy.

It requires urgent medical attention with the patient in the meantime kept flat and warm and the airway kept free. The ability to drive a vehicle or control machinery may be affected, particularly when used together with alcohol. DIPYRON should not be used during the first trimester or during the last six weeks of pregnancy. Hypersensitivity reactions of the skin and mucosal membrane of the eyes and nose may occur.
